We’re having Thanksgiving diner tonight since we won’t be home next week. I am cooking the turkey and need HELP! I cannot get the legs unhooked from the metal dohickey so I can get the neck out. I did get the bag of pieces parts out but the neck is still there. I have two questions: 1. Is leaving the neck inside while it cooks going to hurt anything? 2. Wont hurt a thing. >2. How in the hell can I unhook the legs with these gimpy hands?????
Call a neighbor? Drag a stranger in off the street? Have you got pliers handy? If all else fails, leave the sucker on. Probably will not do not do any major damage. Char "Remember, I’m pulling for ya’. We’re all in this together." Red Green

I know the feeling. The neck, even if it is still in paper should not hurt anything. The Giblets might have left a funny taste, but even that would be unlikely. (You are sure the neck wasn’t stuffed in the neck cavity? They do that pretty often) The only problem I see is I use the neck to simmer to make turkey broth for the gravy. So if you are going to need broth later, send someone by the store to pick up a few cans. My mom always went to a lot of trouble with her giblet gravy. Still remember the panic one year when one of the nieces was asked to take the giblets and neck with broth off the stove and she went to the sink and started to drain them! Charlie stopped her in time. He knew the score cause I’ve spent years fighting to get him to leave the neck and giblets alone. He’s always wanting to feed them to the dog and cat. — Jo Firey "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."
